Thorn is a village is the south of the country, on the Belgian border. For centuries, until Napoleonic times, it was a tiny independent country, ruled by the abbess of the local abbey.
Thorn is unique in this part of Europe, because of the fact that nearly every building, except the old abbey church, is painted white every spring.
